Ben Car Adventure Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last few days playing Ben Car Adventure, and I've got some mixed feelings about it. The game starts off pretty strong, with a cool opening level that introduces you to the main character, Ben, and his trusty car. The graphics are pretty sweet, with some nice-looking environments and decent character models. The gameplay is your standard platformer fare, with Ben running and jumping his way through levels, collecting coins and power-ups along the way.
One thing that really stood out to me was the level design. The levels are all pretty well thought out, with some clever uses of obstacles and enemies to keep things interesting. I especially liked the later levels, which introduced some new mechanics like zero-gravity sections and underwater driving. It was a nice change of pace and kept the game from feeling too repetitive. The checkpoints are also pretty well-placed, so I didn't get too frustrated when I died (which was often, I might add).
But despite some of the cool things about Ben Car Adventure, there are some major issues that hold it back. For one, the controls can be pretty finicky at times. Ben's jumping and driving feel a bit floaty, and it's easy to misjudge distances and end up crashing or falling off a ledge. It's not a huge deal, but it can be frustrating when you're trying to make a precise jump or avoid an obstacle. The game also gets pretty difficult in the later levels, which is fine, but it feels like the difficulty spikes a bit too quickly. I went from breezing through levels to getting stuck on the same spot for 20 minutes, which was a bit annoying.
I also have to say that the story is basically non-existent. I mean, I know it's a platformer and the story isn't always the main focus, but it feels like the developers barely even tried. Ben is just a guy who drives a car and goes on adventures, and that's about it. There's no real plot or characters to speak of, which makes it hard to get invested in the game. I found myself just going through the motions, trying to get to the end of the level rather than actually caring about what was happening.
Despite all my complaints, I did have some fun with Ben Car Adventure. The game has a certain charm to it, and the levels are all pretty well-designed. If you're a fan of platformers, you might get a kick out of it. But if you're looking for something with a bit more depth or substance, you might want to look elsewhere. I'd say it's worth checking out if you can get it on sale or something, but I wouldn't pay full price for it.
Overall, Ben Car Adventure is a decent but flawed game. It's got some cool ideas and some well-designed levels, but it's held back by finicky controls, a lack of story, and some frustrating difficulty spikes. If the developers can iron out some of these issues, they might have a real winner on their hands. But for now, it's just an okay game that could be worth checking out if you're in the mood for a casual platformer.
