Contrast Kids Review & Gameplay Guide
I just finished playing Contrast Kids and I've got to say, it's a bit of a mixed bag. I mean, I loved the idea behind the game - it's all about exploring a world made up of shadows and light, which is pretty cool. The art style is really unique and it looks amazing, like someone took a bunch of old film noir movies and mashed them together with a Tim Burton film. But, at the same time, the gameplay is pretty straightforward and doesn't really do anything new or exciting.
One of the things that really stood out to me was the way the game uses light and shadow to create puzzles and challenges. It's really clever, and there were a few times where I was like "whoa, I didn't see that coming". But, at the same time, it's not like it's super difficult or anything. I mean, I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer, but I was able to breeze through most of the levels without too much trouble. I think that's because the game is really focused on exploration and atmosphere, rather than challenging gameplay.
The story is also pretty interesting, although it's not really fully developed. You play as a kid who's trying to help her friend, and along the way you meet all these other characters who are also trying to help or hinder you. It's all pretty vague, but it's got a nice sense of mystery to it. I liked how the game didn't spell everything out for me, and instead let me fill in the gaps with my own imagination. But, at the same time, I wish there was a bit more to the story - it feels like it's just getting started when the game ends.
I also had a few issues with the controls, which were sometimes a bit finicky. I mean, the game is all about using light and shadow to navigate the world, but sometimes it felt like the game wasn't quite responding the way I wanted it to. It's not a huge deal, but it was frustrating at times. And, on top of that, the game is pretty short - I finished it in like 4 hours, which feels a bit brief. I know it's an indie game and all, but I still feel like I should get a bit more bang for my buck.
Despite all my complaints, though, I still really enjoyed playing Contrast Kids. It's just one of those games that's really charming and fun to play, even if it's not perfect. The atmosphere is great, the art style is amazing, and the puzzles are clever. If you're looking for a game that's a bit different from the usual shooters and action games, then Contrast Kids is definitely worth checking out. Just don't expect it to be super challenging or anything - it's more of a relaxing, laid-back experience.
Overall, I'd say Contrast Kids is a solid game that's worth playing, but it's not going to blow your mind or anything. It's a great example of what indie games can do - it's unique, it's creative, and it's just plain fun. And, even though it's not perfect, I still had a really good time playing it. So, if you're looking for something a bit different, then Contrast Kids is definitely worth checking out. Just don't expect too much, and you'll be fine.
