GoalKings Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last week playing GoalKings and I've got to say, it's a real mixed bag. On the one hand, I love the idea of a game that lets me manage my own soccer team and compete against other players online. It's a great concept and it's something that I've been looking for in a game for a while now. But on the other hand, the execution is a bit lacking in some areas. The graphics, for example, are pretty subpar. The player models look like they were ripped straight from a PS2 game and the stadiums are just kind of bland and uninteresting.
But despite the lackluster graphics, I did find myself getting pretty into the game. The management aspect of it is actually really well done. You get to scout and recruit new players, manage your team's finances, and make tactical decisions during matches. It's all pretty in-depth and it feels like you really have control over your team's success. And when you do win a match, it's a great feeling. The sense of satisfaction and accomplishment is definitely there, and it's what kept me coming back to the game even when I was getting frustrated with some of the other aspects of it.
One thing that I did find kind of annoying was the online component. Now, I'm not usually one to complain about online multiplayer, but in GoalKings it just feels like a chore. The matchmaking system is slow and clunky, and it's hard to find a match against a player who is actually around your skill level. And when you do finally get into a match, it's not uncommon for the other player to just quit if they're losing. It's frustrating, because I feel like the online mode has a lot of potential, but it's just not well implemented.
I also have to say that the AI in the game can be a bit wonky at times. I've had matches where my players just seem to freeze up and forget how to play soccer, and it's pretty infuriating. And sometimes the AI will just make decisions that don't make any sense, like substituting out my best player when we're down by a goal. It's not a huge deal, but it's definitely something that the developers should look into fixing in a future update.
Overall, I'd say that GoalKings is a solid but not spectacular game. If you're a big soccer fan like me, you'll probably find some things to like about it. The management aspect of the game is really well done, and it's a lot of fun to build and customize your own team. But if you're looking for a game with great graphics or a well-implemented online mode, you might want to look elsewhere. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're interested, but just be aware of the game's limitations.
I'm not sure if I'll be sticking with GoalKings long-term, but for now it's been a fun way to pass the time. I'm hoping that the developers will continue to support the game with updates and patches, because I think it has a lot of potential. And who knows, maybe they'll even add some new features or game modes to keep things interesting. As it stands, I'd say GoalKings is a decent game that's worth checking out if you're a soccer fan, but it's not necessarily a must-play.
