I just spent the last week playing Gun Upgrade Rush and I've got to say, it's been a wild ride. I picked it up on a whim, I saw it on sale and thought why not, it looks like a pretty standard shooter. But what I got was something totally different. The game is all about, you guessed it, upgrading your gun. You start off with this pretty basic pistol and as you play through levels, you earn cash and experience points that you can use to upgrade your gun, buy new guns, and even unlock special perks.

At first, I was a bit skeptical, I mean, how much can you really do with a game that's just about upgrading a gun? But the more I played, the more I realized just how deep the upgrade system is. You can customize everything from the barrel to the scope, and each upgrade gives you a noticeable boost in performance. It's crazy how much of a difference a good scope or barrel can make. And the best part is, you can really feel the progression, you start off struggling to take down enemies and by the end, you're a total boss.

One thing that did take some getting used to is the controls. I played on PC and the mouse and keyboard controls are a bit finicky at first. It takes a bit of time to get used to the recoil and the movement, but once you do, it's smooth sailing. The game also has a pretty cool art style, it's all pixelated and retro, but it works really well with the fast-paced action. The sound design is also top notch, the guns all sound really satisfying and the music is catchy and upbeat.

My only real complaint is that the game can get a bit repetitive. You're basically doing the same thing over and over, running through levels and shooting enemies. Don't get me wrong, it's fun at first, but after a while, it starts to feel a bit grindy. I found myself just going through the motions, trying to earn enough cash to upgrade my gun, rather than really enjoying the gameplay. I also wish there was a bit more variety in the level design, it all starts to feel a bit samey after a while.

Despite these complaints, I still had a really good time playing Gun Upgrade Rush. The upgrade system is so deep and satisfying, and the action is fast-paced and exciting. If you're a fan of shooters, or just looking for something to play in short bursts, I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Just be aware that it's not a super complex game, it's all about the simple joy of shooting and upgrading. I'm not sure how much replay value it has, but for the price, it's definitely worth a look.

Overall, I'd say Gun Upgrade Rush is a solid 7 out of 10. It's not perfect, but it's a fun, lighthearted game that's easy to pick up and play. The upgrade system is the real star of the show, and if you're into that sort of thing, you'll probably love it. Just don't expect a super deep story or complex gameplay, and you'll be golden. I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs do next, maybe a sequel with a bit more variety and complexity would be awesome.
