Samurai Dash Review & Gameplay Guide

I just spent the last hour playing Samurai Dash and I'm still trying to process my thoughts about it. I mean, the game is definitely fun, but it's also super frustrating at times. You play as this samurai guy who has to run through these endless levels, slicing up bad guys and collecting power-ups. Sounds simple enough, right? But trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds. The controls are actually pretty tight, which is a good thing, because you're going to need to be quick on your toes to avoid getting killed.

The graphics are pretty cool, I'll give it that. The game has this really stylized, anime-inspired look that's pretty eye-catching. The levels are all set in these different Japanese environments, like temples and forests, and they're all really detailed and stuff. The sound effects are also pretty sweet, with all these satisfying "whooshing" sounds when you slice up the bad guys. But, I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I felt like the music could have been a bit better. It's just this same old loop of Japanese-inspired tunes that starts to get on your nerves after a while.

Now, I know some people are going to love Samurai Dash, and that's cool. It's definitely a game that's all about high scores and competing with your friends, and if that's your thing, then you'll probably have a blast. But for me, personally, I got a bit bored with it after a while. I mean, the levels all start to feel the same after a while, and the power-ups aren't really that exciting. You've got your standard "increase your speed" and "give you a shield" type deals, but that's about it. I was hoping for something a bit more innovative, you know?

One thing that did kind of annoy me was the in-app purchases. I mean, I'm not against spending a bit of money on a game if it's really good, but Samurai Dash just doesn't feel like it's worth it. You can buy all these different power-ups and upgrades, but they're all just temporary, and you'll need to buy them again if you want to keep using them. It feels like the game is just trying to milk you for cash, you know? And the ads, oh man, the ads are everywhere. You'll be playing along, having a good time, and then suddenly this full-screen ad will pop up and just ruin the whole experience.

Despite all my complaints, I do have to say that Samurai Dash is a pretty addictive game. I found myself playing it for way longer than I intended, just trying to beat my high score and get to the next level. And, I guess, if you're into that sort of thing, then you'll probably really enjoy it. Just be prepared for a bit of frustration, and don't say I didn't warn you about the in-app purchases. Overall, I'd say Samurai Dash is a solid, if not spectacular, game. It's not going to win any awards or anything, but it's a fun way to pass the time, and it's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of endless runners.

All in all, I'd give Samurai Dash a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It's not a bad game by any means, but it's just not really anything special either. If you're looking for a fun, mindless game to play on the bus or whatever, then Samurai Dash might be the game for you. But if you're looking for something with a bit more depth, or something that's really going to challenge you, then you might want to look elsewhere.
