Special Alien Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last week playing Special Alien and I have to say, it's been a wild ride. I went into this game not knowing what to expect, I mean the title doesn't exactly give away the plot or gameplay. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The game starts off with you playing as this alien who crash lands on Earth, and from there you have to navigate through the planet, avoiding humans and trying to find a way to fix your ship.
The gameplay is pretty standard platformer fare, you run, jump, and shoot your way through levels, but there's something about the way it's all put together that just feels right. The controls are tight, the levels are well designed, and the enemies are challenging but not frustratingly so. One thing that did take some getting used to was the way the alien moves, it's got this weird floating ability that takes a little while to get the hang of, but once you do, it's actually really cool.
The graphics and sound design are also worth mentioning, the game has this really cool retro vibe to it, with pixel art graphics and a chiptune soundtrack that's just fantastic. It's not trying to be a super realistic game, it's just going for a fun, nostalgic feel, and it totally succeeds. The sound effects are also really well done, from the way the alien's laser sounds to the way the humans shout and run away, it all just adds to the game's charm.
One thing that did disappoint me a little was the length of the game, I was able to beat it in about 6 hours, which isn't a lot of time, especially considering how much I was enjoying it. I know it's not a huge game, but I just wanted more, you know? The levels are all really well designed, but there just aren't enough of them. I also would have loved to see some more variety in the enemies and bosses, there are only a few types, and once you figure out how to beat them, it's just a matter of repetition.
Despite its short length, I would still definitely recommend Special Alien to anyone who's a fan of platformers or just looking for a fun, lighthearted game. It's a great way to spend an afternoon, and it's just so much fun to play. The game also has a really high replay value, I've already gone back and played through it a second time, trying to find all the hidden collectibles and secret levels. So, if you're looking for a game that's just a fun, no-nonsense experience, then Special Alien is definitely worth checking out.
Overall, I'm really glad I picked up Special Alien, it's a game that I'll definitely be playing again in the future, and I would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of the genre. It's not a perfect game, but it's just so much fun to play, and that's what matters most to me. If you're on the fence about whether or not to buy it, I would say go for it, you won't regret it. And who knows, maybe the developers will release some DLC or a sequel to add more content to the game, that would be amazing.
